Some argue that the only true journalists are found in established media outlets. Social media, they claim, is populated only by influencers, bloggers, insult-mongers, or conspiracy theorists. But is it really that simple?

It was social media that allowed us to witness the Gaza genocide live, continuously, and without interruption. Meanwhile, the mainstream media still refuses to call a spade a spade. The word « genocide » is forbidden? Not even by columnists and editorialists? While NGOs , UN authorities, and all global experts acknowledge the existence of the genocide, Canada continues to provide aid to Israel without being held accountable. The media has other things on its mind. So, they ignore the ongoing genocide, the destruction of Lebanon, and what is happening in Israeli prisons.

Regarding the war in Ukraine, however, the official media are not mincing words. They suddenly have the « courage » to voice an opinion that, coincidentally, is in perfect agreement with Western political authorities.

On the Radio-Canada website (… volodymyr-zelensky-calgary-carney ), one could read:

« This is Mr. Zelensky’s first visit to Canada this year. He visited Halifax in December as part of efforts to end the war started by Russia in 2014. « 

In addition to ignoring the fact that Zelensky continues to celebrate Nazi heroes of World War II, Radio-Canada claims that Russia started the war on Ukraine in 2014!

Have we never read, heard or seen on Radio-Canada the statements of Adam Schiff, Lloyd Austin, Lindsay Graham, Leon Panetta, Hillary Clinton, Oliver North, Keith Kellogg, Mitt Romney and Bill Kristol which left no doubt about the American intention of using Ukraine to weaken Russia? Even Marco Rubio admitted in 2025 that the United States had waged a proxy war against Russia.

NATO’s expansion encircling Russia, the $5 billion invested in Ukraine since 1991, repeated meetings with opposition leaders, aid provided to the Maidan uprising in 2014, and interference in the composition of the government have facilitated the neo-Nazi minority’s control over the affairs of the Ukrainian state. Radio-Canada knows nothing about all this?

So Radio-Canada doesn’t know that the neo-Nazi group Right Sector hijacked the peaceful popular uprising to violently carry out the coup? It doesn’t know that members of the neo-Nazi Svoboda party, who entered the government, are largely responsible for repealing the law that protected the linguistic rights of the Russian-speaking minority? It doesn’t know that it was the neo-Nazi group Azov that started the civil war to crush the Russian-speaking minority’s protest against this repeal?

Another time, it was Fabien Deglise in Le Devoir. The journalist wrote:

“Vladimir Putin’s empire has been waging a hybrid war against Germany for years in order to reduce Berlin’s geopolitical influence within the European Union and weaken the EU at the same time. The dictator sees the country and the European political and economic institution as an existential threat to his desire to reconquer the lost territories of the former USSR, including Ukraine .”

Did this really harm the Germans?

Gazprom, along with Germany, financed the construction of Nord Stream II. Was this at the expense of the German people?

Does the journalist believe that Russia is responsible for the Nordstream sabotage ?

Germany invaded the USSR in June 1941.

The USSR defended itself and was primarily responsible for the victory against Nazism.

The USSR accepted the reunification of Germany in 1990 even though the latter was responsible for the deaths of 27 million Russians (civilians and soldiers) during World War II.

The Germans had promised (along with the United States, Great Britain and France) that NATO would not expand east of reunified Germany, but the German authorities did nothing to prevent the Organization’s expansion thereafter.

Germany also bowed in 2008 to George W Bush’s desire to include Ukraine in NATO.

Germany allowed the undemocratic and unconstitutional Maidan coup of February 22, 2014, to proceed, even though, under its auspices, the opposition and President Viktor Yanukovych had agreed on February 21 to hold early presidential elections.

Germany helped conceal preparations for war by sponsoring the Minsk Agreements (2014-2015). Indeed, by Merkel, Hollande, and Poroshenko’s own admission, these agreements were merely a facade to prepare for war.

The truth is that Germany bears a large part of the responsibility for the Ukrainian tragedy. Merz’s remarks are irresponsible. The disinformation produced by the Le Devoir journalist is outrageous.

Here again, if we detach ourselves a little from the official position and, taking flight on social media, rise above the turbulence of acrimony, conspiracy theories and echo chambers, we can access information sites that give us a little more of the truth.

We must acknowledge the efforts of the artists for Peace (Pierre Jasmin) and the Collectif Échec à la guerre (Raymond Legault).

On an international scale, focusing mainly on those who have intervened specifically regarding the conflict in Ukraine or who have more generally criticized American imperialism, we can highlight the contribution of many intellectuals, experts, journalists, former diplomats or military personnel who have done the impossible to change the official narrative.
