Norman Finkelstein, whom I deeply admire, recognizes the contribution of Barbara Smith and the importance of identity politics.
However, he says he opposes the version that leaves out the class struggle in favor of a struggle for a greater share of the wealth concentrated in the 1%.
I believe that he must now open himself to the idea that another struggle against capitalism is required in addition to the class struggle. It is the struggle of the people against the concentration of capital, of the means of production and of decision-making powers in the hands of a handful of stateless oligarchs.
But to bring the whole people together, a great rainbow coalition is needed, including not only the red of the working class, the yellow of the yellow vests, the green of the ecologists and the multicoloured banner of other identity groups, but also indigenous peoples and other minority nations, racialized people, immigrant groups and people with disabilities.
