The USA, Great Britain, Canada, France and other countries have decided to cut funding to the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA). It is the main humanitarian organization in Gaza. The reason ? This is justified on the basis of unverifiable Israeli accusations, alleging the participation of 12 employees out of 20,000 in the October 7 attack.
This response is in itself abhorrent because it punishes an entire organization because of the behavior of 12 people.
It is also scandalous because it follows the judgment of the ICJ which considers as plausible the accusation of genocide brought by South Africa against Israel.
Then there is the fact that this is clearly a concerted action, knowingly prepared in advance as a way of deflecting the subject which is the genocide in Gaza.
Even more profoundly, this decision raises legitimate indignation, because the consequences resulting from this interruption of funding are infinitely more damaging than the alleged participation of the 12 people in the attack of October 7.
This asymmetry of treatment in the issues is in line with the actions of Netanyahu’s genocidal regime. For a Hamas fighter we are ready to kill several innocent civilians. There are more than thirty thousand dead, most of them old people, children, women and perfectly innocent men. In the same way, to punish the 12 members of UNRWA, we are prepared to cut off the livelihoods of thousands of people.
Finally, mainstream Western media make big news with this, but at the same time they minimize the real news which is the ICJ judgment.
We see to what extremes a systemic Islamophobia maintained for years can lead.
This boycott is being undertaken on the basis of allegations from people who have suffered torture. Hundreds of millions of dollars and above all the survival of Gazans are at stake. UNRWA is the main organization which provides food to Gazans. The suspension of funds is all the more heinous because it comes after the 12 employees had already been fired based solely on allegations from Israel’s torture services.
In addition to being completely immoral, the action of these 9 countries is absolutely pathetic and pitiful. The suspension of funds constitutes an additional gesture of genocidal complicity. The nine countries complicit in genocide are: The United States, Germany, the United Kingdom, Australia, Italy, Canada, Finland and the Netherlands.
In Quebec, do not count on the Raoul Dandurand Chair or the CERIUM to denounce Canada’s genocidal complicity in this affair.
