Useful Idiots

At what point does ignorance of geopolitics become useful idiocy in favour of the American superpower? Without having any affinity with the authoritarian and anti-democratic Chinese state, one can ask: does China have 800 military bases all over the world, 400 of which encircle Canada and the United States? (No. It has only 6 in the world and 0 around North America) Does it spend three times more than the US on its military industry? (No. It spends less than three times less while its population is more than four times larger) Do Chinese warships sail the Canadian or American coasts? Does it send military equipment to Puerto Rico? Is there a National Endowment for Democracy that serves as a front for activities trying to convince Puerto Rico to secede? Does China impose sanctions on the United States or Canada and about 40 countries around the world? Has China intervened over the past 50 years in many parts of Latin America to facilitate coups and remove democratically elected officials? Is China responsible for the death and destruction caused by wars throughout the Middle East, including Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya and Syria, and does it occupy a third of the latter country? Is it complicit in the oppression and massacres taking place in Yemen and Palestine? Has it allowed bombs to rain down on Somalia? Has it used the color revolutions to destabilize regimes in the Caucasus? Did it sabotage the Nordstream gas pipeline? Does it have an espionage system as sophisticated as the NSA?

China’s problem stems from its economic success. It has managed to lift 800 million Chinese out of poverty. It has the misfortune to be overtaking the United States economically, which is intolerable for the Doctor Strangelove now in charge at the White House. It also had the nerve and audacity to set up its country right next to the American military bases, no doubt by pure provocation.

Containing China, you say, Mr. Lisée? While the American belligerent interference is incontinent everywhere?
