Will Canada finally recognize the Palestinian state?
For many years, Canada claimed to recognize the two-state solution, but only on the condition that the two parties would reach an agreement through negotiations. Recognition of a Palestinian state would only come at the end of these negotiations. This was the Oslo mentality. Since Israel had no intention of recognizing a Palestinian state and was in a position of strength, it only needed to provoke intolerable situations for the Palestinian people. At the slightest rocket launched to protest the occupation, colonization, Gaza’s blockade, and apartheid, Israel was busy » mowing the lawn » in Gaza, invoking the « right to defend itself » against « terrorism . »
Now Canada has changed its mind. It admits that this conditional recognition of a Palestinian state does not work. Really ? Is it now finally admitting that recognition must come upstream as a means of pressure and that it must not be conditional?
Not at all. Carney has come up with new ideas to postpone recognition of a Palestinian state indefinitely. For this recognition to be effective, the Palestinian Authority must reform, elections must be held in 2026, and Hamas must be excluded. Moreover, Hamas must disarm and return the hostages. In short, it’s safe to say that the cabinet henchmen in Ottawa have come up with new evil concoctions that the Palestinian people will have to swallow before Canada will agree to lift a finger.
This two-state solution will not cause a stir with Uncle Sam. Carney ‘s Canada accepts its subordination to a West dominated by an Anglosphere at the center of which is the United States of America. It continues to belong to the minority of states around the world that consider Hamas to be a terrorist group. It thus agrees to violate the spirit of Article 51 of the United Nations Charter, the resolutions adopted by the UN General Assembly, and international humanitarian law, which recognizes the right to resist, including the right to resort to violence in order to dislodge an occupying power.
Unless there is an unexpected reversal, Canada will thus remain entrenched in its traditional positions and will not join the 145 countries around the world that recognize the existence of a Palestinian state.
