A Ukrainian poll from June 26 2023

Here’s a poll produced by Vox conducted in Ukraine without including people living in Crimea, those living in the Donbass and those who have moved to Russia since the start of the war.

– 43% of respondents in Ukraine disagree with the statement « Nazi and/or neo-Nazi ideology is not widespread in Ukraine »;

– 29% of respondents in Ukraine disagreed with the statement « The Revolution of Dignity in Ukraine in 2013-2014 was NOT a coup » ;

– 26% of respondents in Ukraine agreed with the statement « Russia is fighting against the West/NATO in Ukraine » ;

– 25% of respondents in Ukraine agreed with the statement « The West is using Ukraine for its own purposes in the war against Russia » ;

– 32% of respondents abroad agree with the statement « Russian speakers are oppressed in Ukraine ».

You won’t see these poll results reported in the established Western media.

It would be wrong to compare Ukrainian neo-Nazism to the presence of Russian neo-Nazi members in the Wagner group. There are undoubtedly neo-Nazi individuals in Wagner, but the presence of neo-Nazism in Ukraine is systemic (structural): a political party (Svoboda) founded by notorious neo-Nazis; neo-Nazis responsible for the 2014 coup d’état (Right Sector associated with Svoboda); the presence in the Ukrainian government of Svoboda members leading to the banning of the Russian language and the elimination of old-age pensions to people living in the Donbass (a situation the Minsk agreements aimed to correct); the Azov Battalion wearing Nazi symbols and subscribing to this ideology; the Azov Battalion being included in the Ukrainian army; the annual celebration of Stepan Bandera, the Nazi collaborator responsible for the deaths of thousands of Polish Jews; the Ukrainian ambassador to Germany refusing to condemn Bandera; Zelensky appearing with an Azov representative before the Greek parliament; Zelensky welcoming freed Azov prisoners, etc.

These and many other facts illustrate the structural presence of neo-Nazism in the Ukrainian state. Most Ukrainian citizens are not neo-Nazis, as they voted 73% in 2019 in favor of Zelensky’s PEACE program. And there are neo-Nazis everywhere, including in the Wagner group, but this should not be confused with the systemic neo-Nazism present in Ukraine.
